Huzzah, huzzah, oh happy days! I’m currently sitting in the Portland airport, just 4 (yes, 4) flights away from landing in Kathmandu.

(It’s taking some serious self-control not to use 50 exclamation points at the end of every sentence.)

This trip is a long time coming. I’ve always wanted to go to India as I’ve heard time and again that it can be one of the most challenging, but also most rewarding, of countries. Nepal became a fantasy after walking the Camino de Santiago last year.

And the plan is to have no plans, per usual.

I’m hoping to be gone 5 months. I’m hoping to do some trekking, yoga, and lots of volunteer work (while simultaneously avoiding those ugly voluntourism agencies). I’m hoping not to suffer from Delhi Belly too often, and to refrain from making too many cheesy “Holy Cow!” jokes — though I have low expectations for success on both accounts.

…Oh! They’re starting to board my flight! Time to pack up my computer and spend 5 final minutes staring longingly at the packages of beef jerky hanging opposite of me (Teriyaki flavor, I got my eyes on you).

Not sure when I’ll have internet again, but I hope to be in touch soon-ish.

Peace. Or Namaste.
